Wind Turbine

Our acquisition of a small wind turbine for the Union City Community HS Science Department grew into a partnership between Performance Services, Inc. and Randolph Eastern Schools.  This resulted in the installation of a one megawatt turbine in 2010.  We believe we were either the first or one of the few school districts in the country to have their own wind turbine.  The generated power is sold to with revenue going to offset energy costs within our schools.  We also offer courses in alternative energy as part of our curriculum.

1:1 Chromebooks and Laptops

Union City Community High School recognizes the way schools deliver information to students is changing. Therefore, we have implemented what is called a 1:1 Initiative where every student has a laptop or Chromebook. Laptops and Chromebooks are not the focus of this goal, but they are a tool that is used in changing the way we teach. The second primary goal of this initiative is to further level the playing field and create an equal opportunity for all learners. Every student will have access to the technology they need to interact and learn in our media and technology saturated world.

--Engage students and keep them engaged
--Prepare students for life beyond HS
--Evolving Curriculum
--Open lines of communication between students, faculty, and parents
--Increased Collaboration
--Cost Saving

We believe that students will become producers of knowledge instead of consumers of knowledge and become pilots of their learning not just passengers along for the ride.” Research shows that the 1:1 initiative “levels the playing field” for all students, regardless of any families’ economic situation.

This plan:
--Creates 21st Century Learners
--Demands collaboration between students & students and students & teachers
--Promotes student engagement
--Reduces textbooks and worksheets
--Guides students in the production of knowledge
--Opens opportunities for education at all levels in our community.
--Allows access to current information and a means to manipulate information in ways that connect it in meaningful ways
--Increases enthusiasm due to the ability to use the web and other technological sites
--Promotes student pride through creative opportunities as opposed to textbook and worksheet assignments
--Improves students’ ability to self-assess and set learning goals
--Increases interactive possibilities with teachers and other students
