DECA Students Compete at State Career Development Conference

DECA Students Compete at State Career Development Conference
The Union City DECA Chapter attended the State Career Development Conference from March 5th-March 7th. On Sunday evening, the students took their competition test and attended the opening session. The opening session featured Kylee Scheele, a inspiring speaker, writer and youth expert whohas challenged thousands of teens across the nation to live better stories.

On Monday, the students completed the role play part of their competition. They also had the opportunity to attend leadership workshops. One of the workshops, they attended was given by former Union City student, Britt Smith. She talked about her position with Yelp. Britt gave the students advice during her talk. Monday evening the chapter along with alumni, Destiny Shafer and Justin Fields ate dinner at the Colts Grille. The last event of the evening was the Recognition Session. Union City's Apache Design and TeePee were recognized for being Re-Certified Gold Level School-Based Enterprises. The Monday keynote speaker was Russ Peak. He captivated and engaged the audience with a truly magical experience.

On Tuesday morning, the students attended the Grand Awards Session. We had 2 teams and 1 individual make the finals. Connor Kerns and Ellie Kerns placed in the top 10 in the State in Sports and Entertainment Marketing. Kora Kerns and Emma Baron placed 6th in the State in Marketing Management Team. Elizabeth Sowinski placed 3rd in the State in Personal Selling. That qualified her for the International Competition in Anaheim, California. Ellie Kerns was elected as the District 9 President for the 2017-2018 school year. She will serve on the State Officer Team.

The following students will be attending the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California: Kora Kerns, Emma Baron, Landry Zimmers, Hailey Mills, Elizabeth Sowinski and Ellie Kerns. Congratulations to all students for representing Union City so well.

FFA - Small Engine Career Development Event

FFA - Small Engine Career Development Event
The Union City FFA competed in the District 9 Small Engine Career Development Event at Connersville High School on Saturday.  There were 28 teams from 10 schools at the contest.  The team of Elijah Thornburg and Kollin Warren placed 3rd, and qualified for the state contest in April.  The team of Katie Reichard, Derick Williams, and Ian Glunt placed 11th in their first year.  Students must assemble and start a small engine, troubleshoot problems, and take written exams over the service manuals.  Great job by all!

UC Lady Indians Headed to State Championship Game

UC Lady Indians Headed to State Championship Game
UC  Lady Indians won an exciting double-overtime game on Saturday to earn their ticket to the biggest high school game of the year, the IHSAA Class 1A State Championship Game.

There are Semi-State Champion t-shirts (orders due 10 AM Tuesday, Feb. 21) and State Championship tickets for sale in the high school office.  If you are going to the game, please purchase your tickets from school as we will receive $1 for each ticket sold.

UC Musical "The Wizard of OZ"
We'll soon be "off to see the Wizard!" This year's school musical, "The Wizard of Oz" will take to the stage on Friday, March 10 and Sunday, March 12 in the cafetorium.  This year's cast is working very hard to make this production as fantastic as possible.  This is the 3rd time around for this American classic here at RESC, and it never grows old!  And what makes this showing even more special is that many of the cast members appeared in the production 7 years ago as Munchkins in Munchkinland!  This year's cast includes Alison C., Landry Z., Gage A., Reagan H., Courtney W., Kaley A., and Elizabeth S.  Also, Kennedy P., Madisyn H., Jacob C., Heidi L., Ida Z., Shelby K., and Sarah N.

UC Lady Indians Play in Semi-State Game

UC Lady Indians Play in Semi-State Game
Congratulations to our UC Lady Indians! For the first time in school's history, the girls basketball team has earned the opportunity to the Semi-State game!  This game will be played on Saturday, February 18 at 4 p.m. at Logansport High School. 

If you can not be at the Semi-State game or you have family outside the area that would like to see our Lady Indians in action, here is the link to a live broadcast of the game on KISS-TV.

DECA Earns Gold Star Re-certification

DECA Earns Gold Star Re-certification
TeePee and Apache Design were among 360 school-based enterprises in the United States and 8 in Indiana achieving Gold Level Certification (or Gold Level Re-certification) this year and will be recognized at DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California. The students who worked on the certification were Landry Zimmers, Hailey Mills, Emma Baron and Kora Kerns. TeePee has operated for 42 years and has been certified for 5 years in a row. Apache has operated for 29 years and has been certified for 3 years in a row.

The other schools in Indiana receiving certification were Carmel with 2 stores, Brownsburg, Washington, Avon, and Ft. Wayne Northrop. This is an excellent achievement for our little school.
